5 Skills You Must Know For Camping

Camping is an excellent way to break free of your boring daily routine and enjoy the great outdoors. Yet, the proper planning is essential to any successful outdoor adventure. You can't just pack a tent and some matches and expect to be ready to survive in the woods for a couple of days; there are skills and things to know before setting out on your outdoor vacation. The world has a lot to offer and with proper planning as well as a strong sense of wilderness skills you will without a doubt be able to make it through your camping session.

1. How to Start a Fire: A fire is essential to any campsite as this is where your warmth will come from as well as a source to heat up your food; don't forget those smores! The first thing you should do is pack a few essentials such as matches and dryer-lint. Once you arrive at your camping sit, dig a small hole - This is where your fire will be. Arrange some sticks from the area in the hole and then place the dryer lint or other items such as leaves or even fabric into the sticks; place these items on fire and there you have it, a ranging fire for all of your marshmallows and cold hands.

2. How To Tie A Good Knot: As basic as it may seem, tying a strong knot poses to be a difficult task for many campers. Before you go camping brush-up on your knot tying skills. These skills will be needed during a variety of outdoor situation such as pitching your tent, creating harnesses for equipment securing supplies down. Common knots that are useful to know when camping include the bowline knot and the power cinch knot.

3. How to Prepare For Weather: From temperature to rain - the weather is an unpredictable aspect of the earth so it is important to be prepared for a variety of weather hazards no matter how sunny it may be during the day. You should know how to bundle up if temperatures suddenly drop (thin layers to more thick layers) and how to treat yourself if you become dehydrated on blazing summer days. Knowledge of protecting yourself from thunderstorms and lightening is also very important to your safety and those around you.

4. How to Deal With Wildlife: You should know that when you are camping, wildlife such as bears, raccoons and birds consider you intruders in their home. If any of these animals act on their instincts it is important that you know how to deal with them so you remain safe and unharmed.

5. How to Treat Injuries (First-Aid): While out in the wilderness injuries are bound to happen. A scrape on the knee from a tree stump or a burn on your palm from your fire, knowing how to treat these injuries is necessary for your overall health and well being. Not treating injuries properly can lead to a variety of health complications such as infection.

With proper knowledge and practice of these five skills you are fully equipped with what it takes to camp in a safe manner; you will be prepared for whatever weather, animal or injury comes your way.
